Description
ACP’s Square Carbon Fiber Tubes are manufactured with high strength, medium modulus unidirectional carbon fiber prepreg, with the majority of the fibers positioned along the length of the tube. The unidirectional layers are wrapped around a mandrel and oriented in a 0/90 degree orientation and cured at high temperatures and pressure. This type of construction offers a high stiffness to weight ratio tube with increased bending stiffness and axial strength, a high crush resistance and tight inner diameter (ID) tolerances.
The Square Carbon Fiber Tubes have an outermost layer of 2×2 twill fabric which gives the tube a few advantages including better machinability, reduced splintering and the decorative aesthetics associated with carbon fiber. All our roll wrapped tubes feature a slight rib texture spiraling along their length where shrink-tape has been used in the manufacturing process. If need be, this can easily be sanded and polished away.
Upon request, we can manufacturer tubes using intermediate or high modulus carbon fiber. Custom options also include variations of layers and their fiber orientation. Fibers oriented at 90 degrees (hoop) are wrapped around the circumference to provide high crushing strength and stiffness. The fibers that run along the length, in the 0 degree direction, provide high bending strength and stiffness. Fibers oriented at +/- 45 degree deliver increased torsional rigidity.
