Composite Machining Services

ACP Composites delivers precision composite machining services for demanding applications requiring tight tolerances and consistent quality. Our facility is equipped with advanced 3, 4, and 5‑axis CNC machining centers capable of producing tight‑tolerance, project‑critical components with exceptional accuracy and repeatability. All machining operations are performed under AS9100 quality systems to ensure controlled processes and dependable results.

Our expert technicians understand the unique challenges of machining composites and are skilled at ensuring dimensional accuracy and delivering consistent results, whether working on a prototype, first article, or full-scale production.

By offering in‑house composite machining, ACP Composites helps streamline manufacturing, reduce lead times, simplify supplier management, and control overall production costs.

Machining Capabilities

  • 3, 4, and 5‑axis CNC machining centers
  • Maximum work envelope: 5 ft. W x 12 ft. L
  • Precision tolerances of ±.002” to ±.004”
  • Machining, milling, drilling, and routing of complex composite geometries

Composite Materials Available for Machining

ACP Composites streamlines the production process by maintaining a diverse range of machinable composite materials in-house and can source any additional materials

  • Honeycomb Cores: Aluminum, Plastic, Nomex®
  • Foams: Polyurethane, PVC, ABS, and others
  • Composite Shapes: Tubes, rods, laminates, panels, and formed structures

Composite Finishing Capabilities

Beyond our composite machining services, we can help take stress and workload from our customers by completing an array of in-house composite finishing services. Whether our customers do not possess the necessary equipment, space, or technical expertise, we can help address these needs and simplify the production process while streamlining timelines and budgets. ACP Composites is also capable of taking on overflow work from other composite finishers that are at capacity for select services and need a trusted AS9100-certified partner to provide support.

  • Silk Screening (Branding & Part Marking)
  • Composite Painting (UV Protection & Sealing)
  • Clear Coat Finishing (UV Protection & Surface Hardness)
  • Edge Closeouts (Sealing Exposed Cores)
  • Inserts (Assembly & Fastening Requirements)
  • Hard to Fix Points (Fastening & Structural Mounting Locations)

Composite Ply Cutting & Kitting

Efficient use of raw materials is key to keeping projects on budget and on time. ACP can help to achieve this goal through our ply cutting and kitting services. With our 60” x 20’ computerized ply cutting equipment, we can save both time and money by pre-cutting and individually labeling a variety of materials, including carbon fiber and fiberglass prepregs. By nesting multiple jobs together, we can maximize material utilization and help to minimize material costs on projects with tight budgets. Nesting optimization is proven to reduce material waste by up to 10 – 20% when compared to manual cutting methods.

For straight ply cuts, we utilize a heavy-duty material sheeter. Additionally, we can rewind and slit full rolls of material using a Fabric Roll Slitter and Rewinder, allowing customers to receive materials in custom widths that improve handling, storage, and shop-floor efficiency.

Composite Assembly with Material Sourcing

ACP Composites’ composite assembly services support the integration, bonding, and final assembly of complex multi-piece composite components for demanding aerospace, defense, and industrial applications. Capabilities include precision adhesive bonding, hardware installation, insert integration, subassembly work, and final component assembly, all performed with close attention to fit, function, and long-term performance requirements.

Our material sourcing capabilities are integral to our ability to finish composite assemblies for our customers, rather than needing to find an additional partner. When our customers arrive with finished drawings, our team is capable of finding all necessary materials and sub-assemblies to complete the entire project in-house. ACP maintains long-term relationships with composite material suppliers that are capable of meeting diverse customer requirements.

Composite Material Storage

Composite materials require proper handling and storage in strict, environmentally controlled areas to ensure high-quality, consistent results. Temperature-sensitive materials such as prepregs are maintained in ACP’s dedicated, on-site freezers equipped with real-time temperature tracking and monitoring systems. We carefully manage and document material out-times to protect resin performance, extend shelf life, and ensure compliance with all client specifications.

Controlled composite material storage minimizes moisture absorption, prevents contamination, and delivers consistent material properties from creation to fabrication and beyond. As an AS9100:D certified composite manufacturer, we understand the importance that quality management systems play to ensure all composite parts withstand the extreme conditions found in many end applications. On‑site material storage allows ACP to offer full material traceability, delivering unmatched visibility, quality control, and reliability from material receipt through fabrication.
